[Registering] [Internal Workings] [Links to Search Engines]
There are many search engines that can be found around the Internet. However they are
not all created equal, nor do they all work the same. The information here is designed to
explain some of the mystery. As other Internet resources are located, duplication of
information will be eliminated here and links made to the other sources.
- Dogpile - Searches multiple search engines at the same
time/
-
@Once! Search Central - Links to numerous
search engines
- Infospace - phone numbers, email addresses, etc.
- Alta Vista - searches Web or Usenet; advanced
search allows start and/or end date;
Uses the META description tag.
Link option: "+link:your-site" to find all links to your page
example: link:http://www.domain.com
-url:your-site At one time this was needed to eliminate your site from the
list. However, the "link" alone now seems to surpress your site from the
search results.
Host option: host:domain.xxx
syntax: AND + OR NOT - () NEAR Caps
Live Topics - AltaVista search with a
flowchart-based search method
- Deja News - search the Usenet newsgroups
- Excite - allows concept searches and
Query-By-Example.
- Infoseek - search the web, email addresses and
Usenet newsgroups and FAQs
Infoseek Ultra - search URLs, images, titles
- Lycos a2z - library type catalog by subject
