Human Resources Dept.; August 2002 to present
Responsible for organizational learning, knowledge management, and HR
strategy, including succession management and high-level development. Much of the focus is on developing Communities of Practice and
creating the foundation for emergent organizational change. This latter effort is
being built on adult learning theory and self-organizing concepts from
complexity theory.
Marketing Operations Dept.; June 1998 to July 2002
Lead the cultural shift from relationship marketing to consultative marketing in four
diverse sales forces. Developed learning objectives and coordinated the activities
directed to meeting the objectives, including deployment of new technology to support the
new marketing direction. Used the Balanced Scorecard to focus attention on key
marketing objectives and tracking measures to ensure success. Coordinated
the effort to integrate the supply chain utilizing e-business technology.
Marketing Operations Dept.; Sept. 1995 to May 1998
Responsible for developing and implementing the corporate Internet strategy.
Primary focus is on marketing, with public relations and other company functions
secondary. In addition to the public access Internet, responsibilities include
the Marketing Division section of the corporate Intranet and a proprietary
Customer Extranet.
Marketing Operations Dept.; Sept. 1989 to Sept. 1995
Facilitator and author of the strategic marketing plan. Developed and implemented a market
evaluation and planning process for setting market growth objectives, evaluating
distributor capabilities in the area, and reviewed territory performance objectives.
Started a series of highly acclaimed business planning seminars for distributors. Tracked
competitor marketing activities and recommended new marketing programs.
Corporate Operations Planning; June 1985 to Sept. 1989
Responsible for operations planning and cross functional coordination (manufacturing,
supply & logistics, and marketing) of the company's primary product. Key person in the
development of the strategic plan that has resulted in the company's turn-a-round and
continued growth. Critical in the development of a Supply-Demand-Marketing Model. Chairman
of the Product Specification Committee. Met the many challenges associated with having
profit oversight with limited direct line authority.
Corporate Operations Planning; May 1984 to June 1985
Managed a professional staff that analyzed industry statistics and interpreted their
impact on the company. Through continued improvements in efficiency and data base
development, was able to increase the quantity of work, while reducing complement 40%.
Supply and Logistics; Jan. 1984 to May 1984
Reviewed and negotiated long-term supply agreements. Initiated the Four Month Supply Plan
for determining mid-term supply requirements and surpluses. Developed strategies for
managing product inventories, both in storage and in transit.
Marketing Division; Aug. 1983 to Dec. 1983
Coordinated the integration of information systems for five marketing departments which
had been consolidated. Chairman of a task force responsible for developing a master plan
to upgrade Information Systems.
Retail Marketing Division; Aug. 1981 to Aug. 1983
Managed a ten person department responsible for real estate, division planning and
budgeting, performance evaluation of franchise performance as well as company operated
stores, and internal controls for retail operations. Developed a comprehensive marketing
plan for Retail's continued growth. Investigated and initiated the use of limited real
estate partnerships to finance continued market development. Evaluated new marketing point
of sale equipment and coordinated special projects to test new marketing concepts.
Actively participated in the negotiation for a $3 million acquisition. Initiated ACH
collection procedures for processing franchise receivables.
Retail Marketing Division; April 1980 to Aug. 1981
Performed economic analyses for single and multiple site acquisitions, rebuilds, lease vs.
purchase, sale of surplus property and joint interest business arrangements. Post audited
assumptions used in above evaluations. Performed monthly performance reviews of all
company operated properties.
Financial/Planning Systems; June 1975 to April 1980
Completed various projects including: bank float analysis, Short Term Investment Portfolio
System, Marketing distribution planning model, time series forecasting, special purpose
financial modeling for securing funding for the international division, economic analysis
systems, budget analysis, and pricing studies including forecasting and price/volume relationship studies.
Served as a trainer for SIMPLAN, a forerunner to today's spreadsheets.
